Kintsugi vases for dried stems and quiet corners

Each vase starts as unglazed ceramic, painted by hand in layers of cobalt or warm porcelain white. The gold seams come last, traced one line at a time in the spirit of kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending pottery with gold.

Styling a kintsugi vase

  • With a few dried stems: pampas, lavender, eucalyptus or bunny tails.
  • On a mantelpiece or shelf, next to a kintsugi bowl in the same colour.
  • Empty, as a sculptural piece on a desk or windowsill.
  • In a hotel reception, restaurant or office, where it starts conversations.

Dried flowers only

The vases are painted with acrylics and are not sealed for water. Fresh flowers and water will damage the paint, so keep them for dried arrangements. Each vase is about 24 cm tall.

The vases are kintsugi-inspired. Traditional kintsugi repairs a broken piece with urushi lacquer and gold. Here the gold seams are painted by hand as part of the design.
